Guns, Politics, and PR
October 29, 2008
I was going to a local convenience stop yesterday and noticed the local firing range/gun club had a very unique sign. If you can’t read the text on the sign it reads, “Ease Those Pre-Election Jitters With a New AR 15.” (a very high powered fire arm) This sign could be interpreted many ways – all of which ending badly for someone at the mercy of a newly purchased AR 15.
I am sure the business does not intent to sell a fire arm for ill-use with this signage, but brings me back to making sure your PR message is finely detailed. This sign is somewhat amusing, but an extremist could take it the wrong way or still negative conversations in the community. It’s great to be cleaver or take advantage of current events, but make sure they align wit the business objectives.
